In early December, I first noticed persistent twitching of my left eyelid that continued for more than a week. Shortly afterward, I developed numbness and swelling around my lips and tongue, similar to the lingering sensation following dental anesthesia. Soon after, I found it increasingly difficult to enjoy meals and felt unusual fatigue while eating.
One afternoon after work, I looked in the mirror and discovered that the left side of my face had become noticeably distorted. Alarmed by the sudden change, I sought emergency medical attention immediately and was diagnosed with facial nerve paralysis.
The physician explained that recovery could vary greatly between individuals, ranging from several months to several years. I was prescribed steroids, vitamin supplements, and medications to improve circulation, but I could not stop asking myself, “Why did this happen to me?”
At home, I realized I could no longer fully close my left eye, raise my eyelid normally, or smile symmetrically. Feeling anxious about my future, I searched online for information about facial nerve paralysis and possible treatment options. During my search, I came across Dr. Wen’s clinic and read testimonials shared by other patients who had experienced similar conditions.
I immediately arranged an appointment and visited the clinic that same day.
Dr. Wen explained that the first week after symptom onset represents the most important treatment window for facial nerve paralysis and that many patients unfortunately seek help much later after exhausting other options. I felt fortunate that I had found the clinic early through the experiences shared by previous patients.
During the intensive treatment period, I gradually began noticing improvements. The numbness in my tongue subsided, my sense of taste improved, and I slowly regained the ability to close my eye and move the muscles on the affected side of my face.
By the completion of the second course of treatment, my recovery had progressed to the point where most people could no longer tell that I had ever experienced facial nerve paralysis.
This experience taught me the true importance of health and the value of early intervention. I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, the understanding of my colleagues, the encouragement from Dr. Wen, and the kindness of the clinic staff throughout my recovery journey.
I hope that anyone experiencing similar symptoms can seek treatment promptly and regain both their health and confidence as soon as possible.
