41-Year-Old Stroke Patient Regains Mobility Within One Month with Acupuncture ｜Health & Medical Network

A 41-year-old man, Mr. Wang, suffered an ischemic stroke that resulted in paralysis of his left side. One week after the onset of his stroke, he began incorporating acupuncture into his treatment alongside conventional Western medical rehabilitation. Remarkably, after just two acupuncture sessions, he was able to stand. Within one month, he was able to walk independently without a cane or walker, surprising his family and friends.

However, TCM physician Dr. Wen Tsung-Kai emphasizes that while acupuncture may provide beneficial support during stroke rehabilitation, treatment outcomes vary from patient to patient, and not everyone will experience results as quickly as Mr. Wang.

According to Dr. Wen, Mr. Wang suffered a cerebral infarction caused by a blockage in a blood vessel in the right side of his brain on April 26 of that year, resulting in an ischemic stroke. Following the stroke, he experienced paralysis on his left side and was unable to stand. He initially relied on a wheelchair, with family members assisting him with daily activities.

After spending one week in the hospital, Mr. Wang obtained permission to leave temporarily to receive acupuncture treatment at a TCM clinic before returning to the hospital for Western medical rehabilitation. After receiving acupuncture for two consecutive days, he experienced a noticeable improvement the following night when he got up to urinate. His left leg had regained sensation and strength, allowing him to stand with difficulty.

Encouraged by this progress, Mr. Wang continued to receive acupuncture regularly. He also incorporated TCM dietary therapy into his care while continuing his Western medical rehabilitation. Within one month, he was able to move around independently without relying on a cane or walker.

Dr. Wen explained that Mr. Wang’s stroke was caused by a cerebral blood vessel obstruction. Through specialized acupuncture techniques, specific acupuncture points may be stimulated to support circulation and promote functional recovery. Combined with TCM dietary therapy and conventional rehabilitation, acupuncture may serve as part of a comprehensive approach to post-stroke recovery.

Nevertheless, Dr. Wen stresses that the effectiveness and pace of acupuncture treatment depend on each individual’s condition. Every patient has a different medical history, symptoms, and physical condition. Therefore, there is no fixed number of acupuncture treatments or needles that can guarantee a particular outcome. Treatment should be individually assessed and adjusted according to the patient’s response.
